In Tune with One Another

Fourteen-year-old cancer survivor Marissa belts out some tunes in the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Child Life Auditorium in what amounts to a reunion with one of her biggest fans, recording artist Chloe Lowery.

Chloe, originally from Largo, happens to be in town amid her performance schedule, which since 2010 has included being a featured vocalist with the recording and touring powerhouse Trans-Siberian Orchestra and touring extensively and performing on Broadway with international sensation Rocktopia.

This friendship started with a chance meeting, a little over a year ago, when Marissa was invited to sing the national anthem at a cancer survivor night during a Tampa Bay Lightning game. It was the three-year anniversary of her last cancer treatment at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and Chloe was in the audience.

“I thought WOW this girl can sing!” Chloe says.

Chloe learned that Marissa was a cancer survivor who had an incredible voice and story. She convinced her management team to reach out to Marissa so the two could collaborate on a song for a new music video called, Don’t Let Yourself Down. Chloe wanted to do something special that was cancer related. It just made sense for us to partner together for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer,” she says.

This opportunity brings them back together to sing for patients at the hospital.

“It was so heartwarming to be able to sing to the patients,” Marissa says. “I especially remember when I went through my cancer treatments here, and it was so hard. I loved it when people would come sing to me at the hospital.”

“She’s been waiting for the opportunity to come back here and sing for the patients,” said her mom, Jennifer. “As a cancer survivor, she wants to give back and be a voice for other kids.”
